Soundtrack of my Life: Driving home for Christmas

December 27th, 2014 by nina · music, soundtrack of my life

Driving home for Christmas by Chris Rea is my favorite Christmas song of all time. The first time I hear it in a year, that is the beginning of the Christmas Season. I always have this picture in my head of someone driving through the snow to get home for Christmas and it gives me a warm and happy feeling. I have so many good memories to that song. The strongest is flying home from Stockholm in 2010 to celebrate Christmas with my family. The city was snowed in and my flight had a delay of 5 hours. My dad picked me up at the airport and I had a good time at home with family and friends. This year I got a text message from a friend who asked me to listen to Driving home for Christmas for her because she was sitting on the train back home.

Chris Rea – Driving home for Christmas

I’m driving home for Christmas
Oh, I can’t wait to see those faces
I’m driving home for Christmas, yeah
Well, I’m moving down that line

And it’s been so long
But I will be there
I sing this song
To pass the time away

Driving in my car

It’s gonna take some time but I’ll get there
Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights all around
But soon there’ll be a freeway, yeah
Get my feet on holy ground

So I sing for you
Though you can’t hear me
When I get through
And feel you near me

Driving in my car
I’m driving home for Christmas
With a thousand memories

I take look at the driver next to me
He’s just the same
Just the same

Top to toe in tailbacks
Oh, I got red lights all around
I’m driving home for Christmas, yeah
Get my feet on holy ground

So I sing for you
Though you can’t hear me
When I get through
Oh and feel you near me

Driving in my car
With a thousand memories

I take look at the driver next to me
He’s just the same
He’s driving home, driving home

Soundtrack of my Life: Ben Howard – Esmeralda

November 12th, 2014 by sophie · music, ocean, soundtrack of my life

This songs is very special to me, cause watching the the music video ensured me on the choice to write my master thesis about people and their passion for the sea.
The song touched my heart, so I wanted to share it with you! Check out the video!

Ben Howard – Esmeralda

Oh, blinded now I see that I
Could not hold you
My orange tree left in the darkened
Room for three of us to share.

Oh maybe you were free before my
Blackened wind covered you
I took the sing from your song
I made a bed,
Where you don’t belong.

Oh pull me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up.
Black Sea, I failed to be the light you found in love.
Oh pull me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up.
Black Sea, the monster killed the melody you loved.

Now I’m going places on my own.

Blinded now I see the death
Moves amongst us,
And with such ease arrived
To surround us.
These silent beasts are hard to bear.

Lonely, oh no not me
I have a grave to dig.
Fast moving feet, you gave me light
Where it once was gone
I made a bed,
Where you don’t belong.

Oh pull me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up.
Black Sea, I failed to be the light you found in love.
Oh pull me, she fell beneath the wheels to help me up.
Black Sea, the monster killed the melody you loved.

Now I’m going places on my own.

Soundtrack of my Life: Schreibe dir

August 20th, 2014 by nina · music, soundtrack of my life

it was the summer 2007. a friend and i went to a concert of a young singer-songwriter we lately discovered. it was a hot day and we waited outside of the schlachthof in wiesbaden, an old slaughterhouse which today is a location for concerts and parties.
the concert was amazing. clueso played for over two hours and the ticket was only 17 euro. after the second encore the applause still didn’t turn down. the lights went on again and clueso came out and sang this song which would be one of the next album. just him and his guitar.
on our way home we ate cold pizza in the car. it was one of the best concerts i’ve been to and a really great evening to remember.

my favourite line of the song is this one:
ich stell die schatten scharf, bring licht in diesen tag und tanz auf den dächern dieser zeit.
(i sharpen the shadows, bring light into this day and dance on the roofs of this time)

1st – Soundtrack of my Life: Forever Young

May 1st, 2014 by sophie · music, soundtrack of my life

This is the very first part of our new “Soundtrack of my Life”-Series. Everybody knows it, suddenly there is this one song playing on the radio and you feel like you traveled in time. There are those moments of wild dancing on the cornfield in the summer or the one when you fell in love for the first time, lying on the floor of your room, listening to this one song over and over again. Music touches our souls and that is why we like to share the soundtrack of our lives with you!

I’ve always been a wild child, hanging outside the most of the time. Its probably nothing special, cause i grew up in a village in the 90s, where kids were still playing in the woods or the garden. My friends and I were riding our bikes the whole day till we got hungry or it was getting dark. Sometimes we visited this small lake, which everybody knew. They also knew the most creepy stories about it, which scared me a little. This one day we rode our bikes around it and i remembered the stories. I lost the hookup and did, what I always did and still do, when I feel scared: I start to sing.

So, it was in the 90s but the song I sang was older than myself, its from 84. I probably listened to it on one of my parents awesome mixtapes! It is one of the most covered songs in the music history! Its “Forever Young” from Alphaville! And here are the Lyrics:

ALPHAVILLE - FOREVER YOUNG

Let’s dance in style
let’s dance for a while
heaven can wait
we’re only watching the skies
hoping for the best
but expecting the worst
are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young
or let us live forever
we don’t have the power
but we never say never
sitting in a sandpit
life is a short trip
the music’s for the sad man

Can you imagine when this race is won
turn our golden faces into the sun
praising our leaders we’re getting in tune
the music’s played by the … the mad men

Forever young, I want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever
forever and ever
forever young, I want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever
forever young

Some are like water
some are like the heat
some are a melody
and some are the beat
sooner or later
they all will be gone
why don’t they stay young

It’s so hard to get on without a cause
I don’t want to perish like a fading horse
youth’s like diamonds in the sun
and diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn’t happen today
so many songs that we forgot to play
so many dreams swinging out of the blue
we’ll let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever
forever and ever
forever young, I want to be forever young
do you really want to live forever
forever and ever
Forever young, I wanna be forever young
do you really want to live forever
